Molecular Buffeting Model illustrates Brownian Motion as described in Molecular Buffeting Real. The hotter a substance the more energy there is in the motion of the molecules. In this exhibit the ball bearings represent the molecules and the rotating bars serve to “heat” and/or “cool” the ball bearings. The faster their average motion, the higher the “temperature.” As the large white object is buffeted on all sides, its movement parallels that of a very tiny particle being struck on all sides by small numbers of invisible molecules. This is the Brownian Motion that can be seen through a microscope.
